Townwest Sertoma Heritage Essay Program
Purpose:
The members of the Townwest Sertoma Club want to encourage 8th grade
students at the Berryhill Schools to learn more about their families
in the community and record their findings in written essays.
Incentives:
Townwest Sertoma Club Members will offer prizes for the top three
winners of an essay contest to be held for students in the 8th
grade. First prizewinner will receive $100, second $75 and third
$50. Each of the other students who submit essays will receive a
certificate recognizing their participation in the contest.
The winning students will be recognized at a Townwest Sertoma Club
breakfast in their honor. Parents/Teachers will be encouraged to
attend. Club members will submit the essays to the Tulsa County News
for publication.
Topic and Content:
The topic for the essay is “My Family History”. Writers are
encouraged to write about their family, the family’s interaction
with the community, family accomplishments and other stories to let
the readers know more about their family.
Rules:
The following rules apply to the Townwest Sertoma Heritage Essay
Program.
1. Only students in the Berryhill 8th grade are eligible for the
contest.
2. The students will prepare the essays under the direction of the
8th grade class
sponsor and submit the essays to the sponsor.
3. All essays will be published in a booklet to be distributed to
the Berryhill Schools
Library and Southwest Tulsa Historical Society. The Townwest Sertoma
Club will
also retain copies of the published essays.
4. The Townwest Sertoma Club reserves the right to restrict or
remove essays or
material from the booklet before, or after publication.
5. Essays are to be the work of students, but interviews with family
and community
research are encouraged.
6. Townwest Sertoma Club members will be the final judge of the
essays.
